Margaret V. Hurd age 86 of Nashua died Sunday, November 22, 2009, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Nashua with Pastor Thomas Hagan officiating. Private family interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, at a later date.

Friends may call 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday.

Margaret Viva Hurd was born June 28, 1923, in Marble Rock, IA, the daughter of Harrison and Gertrude (Castle) Ackley. She received her education through freshman year in Marble Rock and was a 1940 graduate of the Greene High School. On September 14, 1940, in Marble Rock, she married Lester Lewis Hurd. To this union six children were born. The couple farmed near Greene for 25 years and Margaret also worked 13 years as custodian for the Highland Terrace Apartments in Charles City. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Nashua and in her free time loved to crochet, her flower garden, traveling, fishing, camping, playing the organ and time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald (Anna) Hurd of Nashua, Charles (Jodell) Hurd of Garner, Steve (Julie) Hurd of Nashua; three daughters, Sharon Woosley of Lebanon, MO, Jackie (Randle) Livingston, Mary (Arlen) Janssen all of Nashua; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Kenneth Ackley of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on January 29, 2000; three grandchildren; five sisters, Erma Snavely, Thelma Haungs, Wilma Marion, Henrietta Meek and Beverly Woods; two brothers, Arthur Ackley and Roger Ackley.
