The descendants of her daughter Berma believe that her grave is in the Sand Hill cemetery near Yardelle, Newton County, Arkansas. Descendants of other of her daughters tell the story that she had gone with someone down towards Coal Hill, Arkansas (near Russellville) to help retrieve children involved in a custody dispute and died near Coal Hill on this journey. Mary Louisa's daughter Monte Jane Lawrence Martin lived just a few miles from Sand Hill cemetery in her later life. Her grand daughter Imogene took Montie Jane around to place flowers every year on Memorial Day - but Montie Jane never mentioned or asked to be take just a few miles away to place flowers on what would have reportedly be her mother's grave.

Gravesite Details

This headstone was recently placed by a grandson, TJ Mooney, who found Mary's grave after years of searching. Mary's grave was originally marked by her daughter Berma, with a sandstone rock etched with Mary's first name; the rock is still there.
