Army Staff Sgt Hansen was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. He died at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit on December 3 with an improvised explosive device in Logar province, Afghanistan. Dennis was a focused and determined man who started out as a focused and determined boy. As a youngster, he was adamant about slam dunking a basketball so he devised the perfect plan – he set up a ladder to slam that ball thru the hoop. Only one problem – he hadn't planned on what would happen after making the dunk. Let's just say it was a rough landing. Dennis went on to join the Marines where he served 8 1/2 years before joining the Army. Previous deployments included Africa, Kosovo, Japan, Panama, Cuba, Iraq, two tours in Afghanistan and the Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Mediterranean Sea. He was an organ donor and a huge Ohio State University fan. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, wrestling, woodworking and he loved animals. One way to get his attention was with pumpkin pie and coffee. Dennis leaves behind his wife, Jennifer, a son and daughter who live in Texas, and an 8 month old son.
