METAMORA - George L. Burnette, 84, of 1200 E. Partridge in Metamora, formerly of Lockport, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Dec. 13, 1919 to John and Fannie Farnham Burnette, he married Mary Sullivan on June 29, 1944, in Lockport. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, John of Joliet; one daughter, Janet (and Bob) Perveiler of Germantown Hills; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded him in death by one brother.

He had owned and operated Midtown Barber Shop in Lockport for 25 years. He was the superintendant of streets in Lockport for 18 years and also formerly served as an alderman with the city.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of St. Mary's Church of Metamora. He also was a Civilian Conservation Corps. member and a lifetime member and past commander of Lockport V.F.W. Post 5788.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at his church. The Rev. John Verrier will officiate. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Goodale Memorial Chapel in Lockport is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
