Jimmie Lou Koon, 94, passed away October 13, 2016, at Legacy House. She was born October 27, 1921, to Walter and Gracie Newton, in Riverview, Alabama. She married J.T. Koon on July 1, 1939. They moved to FL in 1944, living in Sarasota, and later Tampa. She retired after 20 years as a nursing assistant at Tampa General Hospital . After the death of her husband. she relocated to Orange Park, FL to be near family. She moved with them to Coral Springs, FL and then to Ocala, FL; during which time she began another 20 year career with Morrison’s Cafeterias
She was predeceased by her husband, J.T. Koon, her son, J.T. Koon, Jr., brothers, Johnny and Rayford Newton and a sister, Anice Daniels. She is survived by her daughter Bernice (Robert) Henry, son, Charles (Lori) Koon, grandchildren Mark (Karen) Henry, Marcia (Gary) Borden, Michele (Kurt) Danley, Bonnie Koon, Jennifer (Chad) Tabor, Heather Koon and great-grandchildren Logan and Tyler Henry, Ryan and Shane Borden, Mikayla and Kaden Danley and Joshua, Katey and Nicholas Tabor.
She was a member of Fort King Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County or Fort King Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be held at Hiers Baxley Funeral Home on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
