Mrs. Mary BRASSFIELD IRWIN

Mrs. Mary Brassfield Irwin was born in Livingston county, Missouri, September 23, 1845, and was married to J. M. Irwin March 5, 1866. In February 1869, she united with the Baptist church under the pastorate of Rev. James Turner. She moved to western Kansas September 8, 1886, and from there to Colorado Springs, Colo., February 25, 1896, and died March 4, 1897. She was 51 years, 5 months and 11 days old at her death.

Sister Irwin was the mother of five children, four of whom remain to mourn her loss, one of her sons having passed away in infancy, and she now joins him on the other side.

She had not lived among us very long but had won the love and esteem of all who knew her and had a host of friends to visit her and minister to her want in time of need.

She was sick about four months, but was not confined to her bed at any time, and bore her sufferings patiently and was cheerful and happy until a few hours before her death, which came very unexpectedly to us all. She was a true wife, a true mother, a true sister and above all a true Christian.

"I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me: Blessed are the dead that die I the Lord, from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them."

May the Lord comfort and bless the bereaved husband and children who were at her side at her death, and the many friends sympathizing with them in their affliction. The funeral was held at the home March 6, at 2 o'clock p.m. after which the body was interred in Evergreen cemetery.
