"The Gothenburg Times": Laurence Adney, Well Known Farmer, Answers Final Call

Laurence Adney, son of D. W. and Mary Adney, was born in Crawford County, Wisconsin, March 14, 1868, and passed away at his home near Gothenburg, Nebr., Dec. 7, 1933 at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 23 days.

He came to Nebraska at the age of twenty-one. In 1889 he was united in marriage to Ida Buterbaugh. To this union was born five daughters, two of whom, Velma and Mildred, preceded him in death several years ago. In 1907 h(e) moved with his family from the homestead south of Gothenburg to the place where he has since made his home. At an early age he was converted and joined the Banner Church. He was a faithful member and loyal to his faith in Christ. He had been in poor health for a number of years, being dangerously ill only a short time, as far as was known.

The life of Mr. Adney has been a sacrificial one. He lived for his home and family. His devotion to them has been an outstanding feature of his life. Besides his widow, he leaves to mourn his passing, three daughters, Edythe Kelley and Gertrude Sievers, of California, and Dorothy Elizabeth, of Gothenburg. June Sievers is the only grandchild. He also leaves his aged mother, two sisters, Mary and Bertha, and two brothers, Dan and Lee, all of Wisconsin, Joe, of Wyoming, Chris, of Mitchell, Nebr., and Tom, of Gothenburg. Two brothers, Frank and Walter passed away several years ago. There are other relatives and a host of friends who feel the loss of this loved one.

The funeral service was held at the Banner Methodist church on Sunday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Wm. Kilburn, pastor of the church, after which the remains were laid to rest in Peckham cemetery, to await the great roll call of our commander, Jesus Christ. The following served as pallbearers: Hubert Peckham, Dan Colvin, Bob Carskadon, Vernon Atkinson, Dick Weathers and Albert Hecox. As had been requested by Mr. Adney, his pallbearers were sons of those for whom he had been pallbearer. Ed Thompson and Wilburn Anderson, boyhood friends of Mr. Adney were honorary pallbearers.
