McCrea Rites Will Be Held In This City
The body of Samuel D. McCrea of Great Falls, who was killed by the accidental discharge of a shotgun Sunday, 12 miles north of Helena, will be brought here Tuesday and funeral services and burial will take place later in the week. Mrs. McCrea went to Helena Sunday upon being informed of her husband's death.
Mr. McCrea was killed by a charge of shot which entered his body just below the heart. He was driving from Helena to Great Falls and had been shooting crows along the road, but it is thought that at the time of the accident he had pulled to one side of the highway to change a tire. It seemed apparent that he had left the gun in such a position that it was necessary for him to move it before he could alight from the car, and that in lifting it the gun was in some way discharged. This theory was supported by the fact that he had driven to one side of the road and that one tire was flat when passing motorists discovered the body. It is thought the body was found within a few minutes after the accident. Authorities in Helena were notified and the body was taken there.
Mr. McCrea was 45 years of age and with Mrs. McCrea and their four children had lived here for five years. Before making their home in Great Falls, the McCreas had lived for 12 years in Sunburst, where Mr. McCrea was in the lumber and grain business. During his residence here he had been state representative for the American Steel and Wire company, but resigned a short while ago to enter the gasoline business in Helena.
Mr. McCrea was widely known over the state and in the oil industry, with which he was much in contact while a representative of the Steel and Wire company.
