Stella Marie Olson, 85, of Crookston, Minnesota, died Sunday afternoon, December 6, 2009, at the RiverView Care Center in Crookston. Stella was born in Polk County on January 18, 1924, and was the daughter of Henry and Alda (Amiot) Brule. She grew up on the family farm, near Gentilly, Minnesota, and graduated from Polk County School District #210 in 1937. Stella was united in marriage to Reuben Everette Olson on June 20, 1942 at Crookston. Four children were born to their union, Ramona, Sonja, Connie, and Spencer. Reuben and Stella farmed in Onstad Township, near Crookston, until 1971 when they moved into Crookston to their newly built home. Stella will long be remembered for the immaculate home she kept, her hospitality as she hosted those special family pork roast dinners, her kind-hearted nature, and ceaseless devotion to her family. To those who shared in her life she was simply and very lovingly known as "the best". Stella enjoyed singing and playing the guitar; not for an audience, but rather for her own pleasure. Over the years she gathered rather extensive collections of coins, stamps, dolls, and spoons. She and Reuben enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, until declining health made the trips too difficult. Stella became the primary caregiver for Reuben when he became terminally ill, and her loving attention made it possible for him to remain at home right to the end. Sadly, Reuben passed away on May 3rd of this year. On October 15th Stella became a resident of the RiverView Care Center. She never complained and very much appreciated the care shown to her by the staff of RiverView. Stella will be remembered as a beautiful lady, who loved her Lord and Savior, right to the end of her life here on earth.

Loving family members include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ramona and John Haugen of Minneapolis, MN, Sonja and Steve Bates of Murrieta, CA, and Connie Andvik of Detroit Lakes, MN; a son, Spencer Olson of Crookston, MN; 12 grandchildren, Jason Haugen, Jill Livdahl, Trisha Oteri, Michelle Hardy, Parry Andvik, Tina Olson, Denise Kekos, Jacqui Nygaard, Jeremy Olson, Tiffany Jereska, Joseph Olson, and Kyle Olson; 18 great-grandchildren, Chelsea Olson, Ayden Olson, Christian Andvik, Dravin Fillipi, Hoyt Fillipi, Quintin Livdahl, Alexis Steinkopf, Ryan Jereska, Justice Jereska, Joshua Oteri, Li Livdahl, Bradley Hardy, Oscar Nygaard, Lucy Andvik, Adam Kekos, Kayley Kekos, Austyn Olson, and Callie Andvik; a great-great grandson, Jasta Olson; a sister, Rita (Lloyd) Radi of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Arlene Brule of Fargo, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides her beloved husband, Reuben, Stella was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Adolf, Elmer, and Leonard Brule; and sisters, Doris Fortier, Nora Barard, Beatrice Samuelson, and two infant sisters, both named Marie. May God bless the memory of Stella Marie Olson.

A memorial service for Stella Olson will be held at 2:30 pm, Friday, December 11, 2009, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with Family Pastor Kathy Haugen, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service.
