Howard Maddox of Enterprise, passed away, Monday, December 7, 2009 in his home. He was 82. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Frank Wells and COL (Ret.) Sonny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church Building Fund, 302 North Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330 or DaySpring Hospice, PO Box 311246, Enterprise, AL 36331. Mr. Maddox was an active member and deacon in the First Baptist Church, founding member of the Enterprise Country Club and Enterprise YMCA; member of Enterprise Lions Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, which is the highest honor given to a Lion. He served as a referee with the Alabama Athletic Association for 36 years, both on the high school and college level. Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Sowell Maddox in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Dot Kimbrell Maddox; daughter, Karen Maddox May, Dothan; sons, Keith Maddox (Anne) Boiling Springs, SC, Kevin Maddox (Velvet) Enterprise; grandchildren, Andrew Maddox, Boiling Springs, SC, Courtney May Calhoun (John) Augusta, GA, Lauren Elizabeth May, Dothan, Savannah Ann Maddox, Enterprise; sister, Mazie Odom, Ozark; numerous nieces and nephews; also Dot's children, Al Kimbrell (Leslie) Bristol, TN, Russ Kimbrell (Jeannie) Goshen, AL, Kim Soucek (Dan) Boone, NC; her six grandchildren.
