He married his wife, Margie White Thompson on May 14, 1946.
San and Margie, had two children, a son; Sam, and a daughter; Linda.
Linda, was a Memphis beauty queen and she won the 1972 Miss Tennessee USA title. She was Elvis Presley's live in girlfriend from 1972 to 1976. She also went on to be an actress and an award winning songwriter with David Foster. She married Bruce Jenner in 1980 and they had two sons; Brandon and Brody Jenner. In 1991, she married David Foster but they later divorced in 2006.
Margie, passed away on September 5, 1987 at the age of 65 years old in Memphis, TN and was buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown.
Sam, was was a World War II U.S. Army combat veteran.
He always displayed a playful sense of humor, he was a kind, patient and devout man who lived his life in unselfish service.
He passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 in Santa Monica, CA at the age of 89 years old.
He was surrounded with love by those who cared for him and by his family.
He is survived by; his daughter, Linda Thompson of Malibu, CA, with whom he lived for the past 10 years; and by his son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Louise Thompson of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amy Thompson; Jennifer Thompson Attie; Brandon Jenner; and Brody Jenner, all of Los Angeles, CA; and a brother, Adrian Thompson, of Tupelo, MS.
His Visitation was held from 12-2 p.m., on Wednesday, September 23 with a service that followed at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Burial followed at the Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery, where he was laid to rest next to his Wife, Margie.
He will be forever loved, and missed by his family and friends.
