Frank Frederick Rys, 80, of Pine City, died on Friday, Nov. 27, 1998 at Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1918 in Verdigree, NE, the son of Frank R. and Julia (Chalupnik) Rys. While still very young, Frank moved with his family to Beroun. He attended school and made his home there until entering the military on Nov. 7, 1942

During WWII, Frank served with the United States Army in the Phillipines and the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was injured in infantry combat and received an honorable discharge in October 1945.

He married Eileen Heinen on Nov. 24, 1943 at Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City. They made their first home at Fort Lewis, WA. where he was stationed prior to being sent overseas.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia Rys, sisters, Bertha Rosga, Loretta Mikyska and an infant sister, Ann Marie, brothers Stanley, Bill and Bob Rys.

Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. Father Michael J. Lyons officiated. Music was praovided by organist Kathy Hagberg and soloist Cindy Novy.
