Milan was one of six children born to Foster and Mariam (Warner) Ketcham, both natives of New York State. In 1841 the family settled in Campbell Twp. in Warrick Co., Indiana and engaged in farming. On November 14, 1861 Milan married Sarah Harper,daughter of Squire and Eliza (Jenkins) Harper, and they became the parents of eight children; Levi W., Ransom E., May A., Charles E., Sanford L., Melvina, Eliza M. and one unnamed child who died in infancy.

Milan Ketcham was born in Ashtabula county, Ohio, February 15, 1837, died November 24, 1902, aged 65 years, 9 months and 9 days. He moved to Campbell township, Warrick county, Ind, with his parents when he was five years old and he lived on the same farm until his death. He leaves a wife, four sons, one daughter, two brothers (C. E. Ketcham of Elberfeld and LaFayette Ketcham of Fayettsville, Ark.), two sisters (Mrs. Catherine Shrode and Helen Razor of Warrick county) and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. Carroll of Lynnville. Burial took place at the Morrison cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1902, and was in charge of the Canal Lodge, I. O. O. F., of which he was a member.
His toils are past, his work is done,
And they are full blest
He fought the fight, the victory won,
And entered into rest.
