Former Goshen Mayor, Victor Rex White, Dies
GOSHEN -- Victor Rex White, 85, patriarch of Santaquin, Utah stake and former mayor of Goshen, died Saturday in the Payson Hospital of causes incident to age.
He was born February 2, 1889 in Mammoth to Daniel Boyer and Jane Elvina Baxter White. He married Sarah Jane Burraston on Oct. 28, 1912 in Ogden, and the marriage was solemnized later in the Manti LDS temple. She died Jan. 23, 1969.
Mr. White served as bishop and counselor in Goshen Ward, was a member of the stake high council and was sustained stake patriarch in 1950 by Elder Mark E. Peterson. He also taught in the auxiliaries and held many other church positions. He had served a short term mission in South Dakota in 1945.
Mr. White was manager of the dairy at the Ogden School for the Deaf and Blind for many years. He moved to Goshen in 1903 and had served as mayor.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Nita) Reese, Provo; Mrs. Mark (Beth) Wightman, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mrs. Arthur (Delsa) Melquist, Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and one sister, Mrs. Ben (Afton) Felt, Springville.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Goshen Ward Chapel with Bishop Leon Jensen officiating. Friends may call at Holladay Hills Funeral Home, 66 S. 300 E., Santaquin, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the chapel Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in Goshen City Cemetery.
