MUSCATINE, Iowa — Robert Geertz, 94, Muscatine, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, Carrington Place, Muscatine.

Casketbearers were John Yeater Jr., Chuck Geertz, Doug Classen, Ben Geertz, Nathan Classen and Chris Classen. Honorary Casketbearers were George Johnson, Cyle Geertz, Carl U. Geertz, Daniel Kemmerer, Jason Kemmerer and Mark Conaway. Following the services a time of food and fellowship wilwas held at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services handled the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Heartland Hospice or Carrington Place.

Mr. Geertz was born May 24, 1915, in Atalissa, the son of Ernest and Mary Weiss Geertz. He married Mrytle Lendt, Dec. 20, 1938. After her death he was married to Mildred Porter Dec. 21, 1976.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. He farmed most of his life and later retired from Thatcher Glass, Muscatine.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Carolyn Yeater and husband, John of Muscatine, Vi Kemmerer and husband, Chuck of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Joseph R. Geertz and wife, Donna of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Charles C. Geertz and wife, Carolyn of Nichols and Al Classen and wife, Marge of Burlington; a stepson, Ronald Baxter and wife, Marilyn of DeWitt, a stepdaughter, Deanna Eversmeyer and husband, Alan of Muscatine; 17 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Carl Geertz and wife, Aurilee of West Liberty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife in 1975, his second wife in 1997, a sister, Frieda Pasvogel, a son and a daughter, both in infancy, a great-grandson, Cody Geertz and a granddaughter, Linda Johnson.
