HAROLD W. BOWMAN, of Tequesta, Florida, died Sunday, October 23, 1994. He was born in Nebraska February 12, 1903. Following his graduation from the U. of Calif., Berkeley, and the original class of Flying Cadets, he joined the Army Air Corps. He married Etta Buchanan in San Diego in 1931. He led bombardment forces over Europe in WWII. He was Chief of Air Force Public Relations following the war. He served a tour as a strategic planner in NATO. His last active duty was at Norfolk, Va. as Deputy Commandant of the Armed Forces Staff College. His decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Croix de Guerre. He was very active in the 401st Bomb Group Assn.

In the last few months, he had been very gratified by a wonderful response to his privately published memoirs "Birds of A Feather." He was a hero not only as a military leader but as a person. He left a legacy of unconditional love, hard work, absolute integrity and great humor. His favorite description of himself was, "A Communicator." He had been a local resident since 1959.

Gen. Bowman is survived by a son, a daughter and son-in-law, four grandsons, and a sister. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years in 1993 and his granddaughter.

During WWII, he developed a great admiration and affection for the American Red Cross. He is also deeply appreciative of the skilled and loving care Hospice of Palm Beach County provided for him, his wife and granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, he requests donations be made to either the American Red Cross, P. O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013 or Hospice of Palm Beach County, 75 East Indiantown Road, Jupiter, FL 33458. Arrangement by the AYCOCK FUNERAL HOME, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 29 at the Maranatha Church, 2575 Lone Pine Dr., Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. with Pastor Horace S. Ward officiating.
