A U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran, he attended Yuma High School in Arizona and the University of Arizona at Tucson, where he studied Business Accounting. He worked 50 years for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a full time member of the Brotherhood of Railroad and Airline Clerks, representing employees in several executive positions. He and his wife moved to Gaithersburg in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Rose Marie Augustine Diehl, in 2006.; his parents, Harry T. & Mary Barbara Garver Diehl; his stepmother, Freda M. Diehl; his infant twin brother, John William, and sisters, Mary Margaret Swayze & Sara Elizabeth McGrath.
He is survived by nephews, Bo Denzel, Stuart Swayze of Maryland, John Swayze of California, Douglas McGrath of Georgia, & Jeffrey McGrath of Illinois; niece, Susan McGrath Osborne of Arizona; several cousins, and other relatives.
Interment followed Mass of Christian Burial conducted at the ST. Martin Catholic Church, Gaithersburg, MD, Monday, November 17, 2009.
