Her first husband, Hershel Benton Gibbs, was a violent alcoholic who beat his wife and baby (their only child, Benton). Maggie had to run away and hide, until she could get a divorce. Benton was raised with the rest of Maggie's children with Jimmie Gillespie like a full brother. I remember their house with fondness (great granddaughter).
