He was born on March 29, 1923, in San Diego, Calif., to Clarence and Ruth McAlexander Parr. He married Gloryne Parks on Aug. 1, 1946, in Santa Barbara, Calif. She died in 2003.
He served in the Army during World War II and was held as a prisoner of war in Poland and later in Germany.
After the war, he worked in construction building movie sets and his own home. He then worked for the Los Angeles fire department. After retiring, he moved to Oregon and became a cattle rancher.
Survivors include a son, Michael, of Veneta; two daughters, Lynn Howarth of Crow and Nancy Ockenden of Veneta; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
