Guy U. Sheffer

GLEN ROCK - Guy U. Sheffer, 78, of Masonic Home, Elizabethtown, formerly of Glen Rock, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Gene (Lau) Sheffer. The couple observed their 53rd wedding anniversary March 7.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be 10 a.m. Oct. 21, 1995, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, New and Church streets, Glen Rock. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be 9:15 to 10 a.m. Oct. 21, 1995, at the church. The Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sheffer was born July 23, 1917, in Glen Rock. He was the son of the late Guy S. and Alelia (Bollinger) Sheffer.
He was a partner in Lau's True Value Hardware, retiring in 1980. Prior to that, he worked for Lau's Plumbing and Hardware Store for 36 years. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and its choir, and superintendent and teacher of its Sunday School. He was a 1935 graduate of Glen Rock High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He served on Glen Rock Borough Council. He was a member of Shrewsbury Lodge 423 Free and Accepted Masons, Tall Cedars of Lebanon York Forest 30, Harrisburg Consistory Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Zembo Temple Shrine in Harrisburg, Red Lion Scottish Rite, and Glen Rock Fireman's Relief Association. He was a former member of York County Shrine Club and Glen Rock Lions Club, where he was past president, treasurer, chaplain and tail twister.
Mr. Sheffer also is survived by a son, Alan G. Sheffer of Glenshaw; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Adele Weiss of Harrisburg.
Mr. Sheffer was preceded in death by a son, E. Michael Sheffer.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Jacqueline Starz.
