Emma Alease Hibben, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Born April 29, 1924, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of John Edward Farmer and Georgiana Hodges Farmer.

Mrs. Hibben came to Oak Ridge in 1944 and worked as a technician at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and then worked for 28 years as a secretary to the director of Public Works for the city of Oak Ridge.

She married Robert F. Hibben on Aug. 31, 1946. Mr. Hibben died Sept. 12, 1997.

Mrs. Hibben was a past member of Prospect United Methodist Church of Yanceyville, N.C., and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Professional Secretaries Association, the Sister City Support Organization and the Friendship Force and was a past president of the East Tennessee Riding Club.

Mrs. Hibben loved to travel and read and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Dennis E. Hibben of Oak Ridge; her daughter, Deborah Green and her husband, David, also of Oak Ridge; her sisters, Evelyn Walker and her husband, Bill, of Roxboro, N.C., and Pauline Clayton of Yanceyville; and her brother-in-law, Graham Jones of Southern Pines, N.C.

Mrs. Hibben is also survived by two grandchildren, Robert E. Hibben and his wife, Gayle, of Marlow and Carrie Wheeler and her husband, Joey, of Oak Ridge; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Hibben, Matthew Hibben and Zachary Hibben, all of Marlow, and Amber Roberts of Oak Ridge; and one step-great-granddaughter, Tiffanie Wheeler of Oak Ridge.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Franklin Hibben Jr.; and by a brother and two sisters, Liston Farmer, Louise Jones and Ruby Lee Jones.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 9, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating.

A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday, July 10, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 9, at the mortuary.
