Sam was a Mason, which is noted on his headstone and by the photo that has been preserved. He is listed as a member of the Brookeland Masonic Lodge in Brookeland, Sabine County, Texas at the time of his death.
Sam claimed to have served in the Civil War for the CSA but his pension application was rejected for failure to find him on their military rolls. This however does not mean he did not serv only that they could not locate him in any paper work.
Sam and Martha Williams were the first of our WILLIAMS line to come to Texas. To the best of my knowledge he came with nor followed any other family members.
