GREY LATHAM
Grey Latham was a known playboy
from the Eastern seaboard of
the nation.
His business endeavors were
not always successful.
His family eventually had a
connection to the pioneering
days of early films.

####################

Grey Latham was HUSBAND to
WIFE - Rose Cecil O'Neill
(artist/writer/doll maker)
/ Divorced
D.O.D. 1944

They had no children

######################

Latham and Rose met when she
was a young woman living in
Nebraska. He wooed and won
her heart and spent the rest
of their marriage avoiding
work and spending his wife's
paychecks.

They were wed in 1896.

During the early marriage,
O'Neill started signing her
finished artwork
'LATHAM O'NEILL'
(instead of the famed, highly
styalized, dripping-lettering
of her maiden name, 'O'NEILL')
This new signature was intended
as an honor and recognition of
both her maiden name as well
as recognizing her new
married title.

####################

The newlywed Latham, eventually
took up poor habits - like
gambling and frittered away much
of Rose's illustration-work income.
He was known to show up at her
employment and pick-up her check
(and to spend the income) BEFORE
she could retrieve it.

Grey, his brothers and father
all worked on perfecting a movie
projector. They had successes and
even more failures. Today, the
'Latham Loop' - a manner where extra
film is coiled as a preventitive -
still bears the family's name.

The couple were not wed for a long
period - divorcing in 1901.

Rose was at the genesis of her
career -- and was about to become
extremely wealthy. She was the
creator of the KEWPIE DOLL. She
also wrote novels, poems and
fashioned several other popular
dolls. His ex-wife became a
multi-millionaire.

#####################

Following a brief period after
Rose and her husband's divorce,
Grey was killed - in 1902 - due
to a trolleycar accident.

The fate of brother Percy is
unknown.

Grey's brother, Otway was also
dead by 1902.

Then, Major Latham - now elderly
and brokenherted at the demise
of his lads, lived on till 1911
and sccumed to several maladies.

Sadly, he Latham family was
'no more...'

* LIFE IS BUT A STOPPING PLACE *

"Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant
to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey
finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord"
