VEAL--In Hire township, McDonough county, Illinois, Thursday, August 5th, 1880, Mrs. Jane T. Veal, aged 52 years, 2 months, and 10 days.

The maiden name of deceased was Hainline; was the daughter of George and Flora Hainline. She was born in Montgomery county, Kentucky, in 1827. At the age of ten years with her father's family she came to Illinois, settling in Emmet township, where she grew to womanhood. When eighteen yerrs [sic] of age she united in marriage with A. J. Veal, at that time a resident of Chariton county, Missouri. Shortly after marriage, the young husband and wife went to Missouri, living there, however, less than a year, when they returned to McDonough, and locating in Hire township, which has been her home since. Four years ago her husband died of cancer of the stomach after a protracted and painful illness of over two years. Through all the long hours, days, months, and seasons, the faithful wife administered to the wants of her suffering husband with a devotion and patience which only a wife possesses. For a year or more deceased has been in poor health, growing worse as the months's [sic] passed. Three months since she took to her bed, from which she never arose. Her disease was tumorous affection, which developed into a running sore, from which she suffered all the pangs of death many times over[.] But she bore her afflictions with resignation, aye, willingly, until Thursday, when death came as a ministering angel and gave her rest.

Owing to the condition of remains, the burial same day of death was necessitated. Her death occurred early in the morning. A funeral sermon was preached by Rev. David Martin, of Good Hope, after which a long train of sorrowing relatives and friends followed the body to the cemetery, where it was laid to rest as the shadows of evening were coming on.

No more toil or care; no more watching in sickness, no more sickness to endure. Nor more anxiety of mind, no more aces of body. Life ended, rest at last.
