William French Jr. from Pittsfield was a Private in Company H of the 20th Regiment, Mass. Volunteer Infantry. Age 43; farmer; enlisted at Williamstown, MA, Dec 12 or Dec 23, 1861; mustered Dec 26, 1861; discharged for disability, April 14, 1862, at camp near Yorktown, VA. ("An old fracture of the fibula which incapacitates him from marching.")
Also listed as a Teamster. Served under Capt. Shepardson.

Elizabeth French, wife of William French from this regiment, applied for widow's pension Oct 21,1883. She claimed he died of rheumatism contracted in the line of duty.
