Eliza Armstrong Abbey was born near Meadville, Pennsylvania, June 23, 1821, and died at Northwood, Iowa, May 3, 1902. Her childhood and youth were spent in the Pennsylvania home. In 1842 she was married to John A. Abbey and moved to Western New York, where she lived until 1863 when she came to Northwood. Four children came into the home, of whom three survive the father and mother, Villeroy, of Kensett, Alonzo Abbey and Rosa Farmer of Northwood, Iowa. Mrs. Abbey was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church in 1872,and remained to the end a humble, devoted and consistent Christian. It was her nature to be cheerful, loving, and faithful. She looked on the sunny side of life, and even after the Infirmities of old age began to rest heavily upon her, she continued to take interest in affairs and in her friends, and to make life pleasant for herself by making it pleasant for others. Rev. Frank Cole tenderly conducted her funeral service in tHe M. E. church, Monday forenoon, and the worn body was interred in Sunset Rest cemetery.
