ASHLAND – Edward A Dupuis, 84, of Hill Avenue died at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth on October 28, 2009, following a period of failing health.

Born in Bristol on August 21, 1925, he was a son of Joseph and Carrie (Cook) Dupuis. He grew up in Plymouth on the family farm and attended the one-room school house in Lower Interval. In his senior year of high school, he enlisted in the US Navy. He was stationed on the USS Wasp Aircraft Carrier as a Gunners Mate Third Class during World War II.

After the war, he returned to Plymouth to complete his high school education at Plymouth Teachers College. Edward then continued his education at the New England Institute of Embalming and Funeral Directing in Boston, Mass. After graduation, he was employed at the Gammons Funeral Home in Plymouth and later at the McNamara Funeral Home in West Lebanon. In December 1953 he and his family moved to Ashland and established the Dupuis Funeral Home which he operated for 56 years, the last five years with his son, Elliott, who will continue to operate Dupuis Funeral Home as director.

While living in Ashland, Ed was very involved in his community. He served as health officer, town trustee, Scribner trustee and on the Town of Ashland Budget Committee. He also served as a trustee of the Green Grove Cemetery Association and was a lifetime member and past service officer of the Dupuis-Cross Post 15, American Legion. In 2005 the Ashland Town Report was dedicated to him. His family always came first. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events and activities. He always enjoyed a healthy debate, horse racing and sports. He was predeceased by Dorothy, his wife of nearly 60 years, on April 18, 2009, and by his brother, Ezra Dupuis, and his sister, Annette Ames.
