Dean was born in Gatesville, Texas, to Cleone (White) Hodges and the late Clyde Hodges. He grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1959. He attended Temple Junior College for two years. He married Hazel Stubblefield in 1962. He owned and operated his own machine shop and was a truck driver. He most recently had been driving a truck for Hopson Brothers Trucking. He also raised game roosters for many years. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church.
Dean is survived by his wife, Hazel Hodges; daughter, Cindy Tippit and husband, Dee, of Gatesville; sons, Curtis Hodges and Ben O. Hodges, of Gatesville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; mother, Cleone Hodges, of Gatesville; brothers, Kent Hodges, of Gatesville and Gary Hodges, of Flat; and many other family members and friends.
