Daughter of Michael Kistler (1792-1872) and Mary Magdalena (nee Brobst) Kistler (1798-1882), Mary Anna was born in Kistler's Valley, Albany Twp, Berks Co, PA.

She married Jonas Billig (1816-1863) in 1849, and gave birth to 3 children (James Kistler Billig, Henry Albert Billig, & Ellaweisa Billig). Ellaweisa died in 1860 and, following the death of Jonas in 1863, Mary Anna went to work for Charles & Maria Faust as a nurse to help care for their large family.

When Maria died shortly after giving birth to her youngest child in February, 1866, Mary Anna stayed on to care for Charles and his motherless children. They soon fell in love, and Charles and Mary Anna were married later that same year. Charles died in 1895 and Mary Anna (called Anna by the Faust family) went to live with her son (James Kistler Billig) and, later, with the step-daughter she had raised since birth (Cordelia Faust Deysher) & family. She died in 1908.
