Joe Yarborough was one of ten children, the third child, and second son, of Harvey Quitman Yarborough (1858-1949) and Margaret Alyne (Maggie) Breeden (1869-1974). Joe grew up on his parents' farm near Greensburg, LA. On 5 June 1917, he registered for the draft and two months later married Rebekah Adaliza Youngblood McKinney (1898-1989). After the war, the couple raised three children of their own on their farm, two girls (Louise Rebecca and Marguerite Nancy) and a boy Frederick Andrew), and one adopted son (Rulon L. Griffith "Skip" Yarborough). Family stories tell of the loving and close relationships of this family, who remained in the area all their lives.
