Civil War Confederate Major General. He was a native Frenchman who served in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States. He was one of the highest ranking foreigners to serve, and had a distinguished career. He had previously served in the Crimean War (1854 to 1855), and he later commanded a division in the Franco-Prussian War (1870 to 1871). He died in Paris, but is buried with his wife's family in Germany. When he passed away, he was the last surviving Confederate Major General.
