After the Stokers relocated from North Carolina to Jackson County, Ohio in 1815 they purchased land in Vega, in Bloomfield Township. Neighbors included the family of James McDaniel and Zibiah McCarley McDaniel with whom the Stokers developed a close relationship, so close that four children of James and Zibiah McDaniel married two children and two grandchildren of Michael Stoker Sr. and Catherine Eller Stoker. Sarah McDaniel, he eldest child, married John W. Stoker on March 13, 1827.

In 1833 John and Sarah Stoker joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and several years later migrated to Caldwell County, Missouri where the Mormons had concentrated. Two years later they had to flee Missouri losing most all of their earthly posessions. They eventually settled south of Nauvoo in Hancock County, Illinois. The Mormons had to abandon Nauvoo after the murder of Joseph Smith Jr. John and Sarah received their endowments in the recently completed Nauvoo on January 21, 1846. They crossed Iowa in a wagon pulled by oxen and came to Kanesville/Council Bluffs and remained here instead of continuing on to Utah. Sarah's sister Martha McDaniel Stoker, married to Michael Stoker Jr. also remained in Council Bluffs. Sarah's brother John McDaniel married David Stoker's daughter Christine and journeyed on to Utah as did Sarah's sister Jane who married John Stoker, the son of David Stoker.

Sarah died in Council Bluffs on May 7, 1857 some three months prior to the death of her husband, John W. Stoker. Both are buried with their many relatives in the Stoker - Graybill Cemetery.
