Sherman Taylor, Kearney Resident, 82
KEARNEY--Sherman N. Taylor, 82, of 2801 Grand Avenue died Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Jack Attebery officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759, American Legion Post 52 and the National Guard Unit of Kearney.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney and one hour before services Saturday at the church.
He was born Feb. 26, 1920 in Sheridan County to Edward and Sarah (Thompson] Taylor. He lived on a farm and graduated from high school in Clinton in 1940. He served from 1941 to 1945 in the U.S. Army and was in the South Pacific. He returned to farm in Box Butte County in 1946.
In 1946, he married Edna Thompson in Hemmingford. He attended the Southern Nazarene College in Bethany, Okla., from 1950 to 1955. He was ordained in 1957 and served as a pastor for 22 years at churches in Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. He was a member of the church in Kearney, VFW in Kearney and served as chaplain for Scotts Bluff VFW Post 2680. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, sons, Rodney, Edward and Warren, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
