S. M. SPRAGUE, MINING MAN, IS DEAD

Sylvester M. Sprague, well known mining man of this city, and a veteran of the Civil War, died yesterday afternoon at his home in Auburn. He had been ailing for some time, but made a brave struggle to resist the clutch of death.

Deceased was a native of Vermont and 73 years old. He had spent many years in this city and county, and was an authority on mining and minerals, spending his life in their study and in search of the mountains and canyons for th treasures they contained. In late years he had been the manager of a company holding extensive asbestos, copper, iron and talc claims in this county, which it was hoped would develop into wealth producers.

The relatives of deceased are his widow, a daughter, Mrs. S. G. Watts, and a son, Delbert Sprague, who is cashier of the down town branch of the Placer County Bank. - Funeral services will be held at the residence at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning and the Grand Army will officiate. Interment will be in the Grand Army plot in the I.O.O. F. cemetery in this city.
