Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted servant of the Lord passed away peacefully after a short illness to rejoin his eternal companion, Barbara Jeane Willis Reed, on Friday, November 27, 2009. He resided at 8224 South Wood Street (55 West) in Midvale, Utah at the time of his death.


Born August 2, 1927 in Lehi, Utah to A. James Reed and Thelma Jones Reed, Doug was the oldest of four children.


He grew up in the mining community of Lark, Utah, and attended Bingham High School, where he was an accomplished student athlete. He served in the Navy during World War II and, subsequently, was a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force. He also served an LDS mission for three years in Denmark.


He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jeane Willis, on June 5, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.


He worked in road construction for twenty years after obtaining his Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of Utah. He received his Masters Degree in Social Work at age forty-two and worked for Jordan School District until retirement.


He served on the Midvale City Council for four years. His life was an example of dedicated service to the Lord, serving in many leadership capacities as Bishop, High Councilor, Ward Clerk, Stake Mission President, and High Priest Group Leader. His family and community were blessed by his work ethic and unwavering service to Jesus Christ.


Doug is survived by his three sisters, Shirley Nielsen (Ray), Donna Ault (Lou), Sonja Larsen (Chuck); four children, D. Brent Reed (Carellyn), Susan Rollins (Scott), Kathy Faulkner (Karl), Barbara Chapman (Tom-deceased); twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Midvale Seventh Ward Chapel, 8350 South Jackson Street, Midvale. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday at the Church from 10-10:45 a.m.
Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.
