Frank Edward Butler Jr., 79, of 3100 Shore Dr., died April 16, 1988, in Westminster Canterbury of Virginia Beach. A native of Suffolk, he was the widower of Mrs. Arnold Fleetwood Butler, and son of the late Frank E. Butler Sr. and Noel Bradshaw Butler.

He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach. He had graduated from Suffolk High School, the University of Virginia Law School, and earned his L.L.B. degree in 1932.

He practiced law from 1932 to 1955 in Suffolk. In 1955 he became affiliated with Farmers' Bank of Nansemond where he served as president and a member of the board of directors until the merger with Seaboard Citizen National Bank of Norfolk.

He served as senior vice president and a member of the board of Seaboard National Bank, which later merged with United Virginia Bank, now known as Crestar.

Butler retired from banking in 1974 and resumed his law practice in Virginia Beach which continued until his death.
Memberships include the Virginia State Bar Association, the Virginia Beach Bar Association, a former member and past president of the Suffolk Bar Association, a former member of the Suffolk Rotary Club; and a former member of the board of the State Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Edward Butler III of Virginia Beach and Fleetwood Prince of Alexandria; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Coulbourn of Windsor, N.C., and Mrs. Margaret Seelbinder of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
