OBITUARY - Carson Abbott
Carson Abbott, 88, of Rushville, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born Feb. 25, 1921, in Schuyler County, Illinois, the son of David and Rhoda (Trone) Abbott. He married Vera Kelly on May 2, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo., and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Joyce Lung (husband Charles) of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joan Long of Naperville, and Judy Mills (husband Ric) of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale Abbott (wife Esther) of Rushville; and one sister, Rosalee Kotter of Rushville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Orson Abbott, and one sister, Edna Lashbrook.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He first worked at the Harry Hall Coal Mine in Rushville. He later worked at Davis IGA, the Southern Illinois Breeder's Association and with his brother-in-law at Kotter's Service. For 24 years he worked for National Gypsum Company in Phoenix, Ariz., retiring in 1985.
In 1991 he and his wife returned to Rushville for their retirement. He was a very active member of the Houston United Methodist Church north of Rushville. He enjoyed
gardening and doing things for others. He volunteered for many years with the Schuyler County Food Basket.
Services were held Tuesday, June 30 at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Revs. Sheri Renner and Dixie Croxton officiating. Interment was in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.
