Mrs. Vest died on 07 March 1933 in her home. Mr. and Mrs. Vest lived on White Oak Mountain in Raleigh County, W.Va., near the Summers County line.
They had four sons, Leonard Haliburton Vest, Sanford Walter Vest, Luther Flemon Vest and Ethiel Barah (E.B.) Vest and a daughter Callie Matilda Vest. Callie married Wriston Richmond.
Mrs. Vest loved to read, according to her granddaughter Nina Vest Bennett Worley.
NOTE: The 1900 census states that Malinda was the mother of six children with five still living. Five are listed: Leonard, 17, Luther, 16, Sanford, 10, Callie, 13, and Julius, 4. Malinda and Columbus's son Ethiel, who would have been four years old for purposes of the census (his age on his next birthday), was not listed. The absence of Ethiel's name -- Ethiel being a known child -- indicates that Julius was listed in error. Perhaps Julius was the sixth child who died.
