Frances Griffin Brown, 91, of Charlotte, NC, and Chattanooga, TN, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Lawyers Glen Retirement Center in Mint Hill.
Frances was born February 9, 1918 in Goodwater, AL, to the late James Olin and Minnie Dallas Strickland Griffin. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings; her husband, Hez Brown; and her grandson, Robert Stuart Brown Jr.
Frances was a retired elementary school teacher with the Chattanooga Schools and had lived in Charlotte, NC since 1996. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing roses and being a member of several garden clubs in Chattanooga.
She enjoyed volunteering at Erlanger Hospital and spending time with her family and her cats. Frances was a member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga.
She is survived by her son, Robert Stuart Brown and his wife, Marta, of Mint Hill; her grandson, Jeffrey Scott Brown and his wife, Danielle, of Mint Hill; her granddaughter, Jennifer Frances Brown Pait and her husband, Corey, of Wesley Chapel; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe Grace Pait.
After a private family viewing, a graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Chattanooga, TN. Mrs. Brown will be buried beside her husband.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Lawyers Glen for their excellent care, as well as the staff at Hospice.
