Caroline E. Yancey passed away at her home at 526 East Chestnut at 11 pm on April 23rd from complications of Bright's Disease [kidney disease]. She was 81 years old.

Looking back on Caroline and her family's life...

The 1850 US Federal Census reports James and Caroline Yancey residing in what was termed E C [East Cahaba] River in Bibb county, Alabama. He was 25 and employed as a saddler and she was 18.

By the time of the Civil War, the 1860 Census enumerated on the 1st day of August reports James now 35 is still working as a saddler and his wife Caroline is 26. Their nearby Post Office is Centreville, AL. Others living in the home are Mary Yancey 6, Henry Yancey 5, Isaac Yancey 1, Taylor Yancey 19 and Thomas Yancey 12.

1880 United States Federal Census shows us that James and Caroline have moved to Jasper county, Missouri living on a farm in the Sheridan Twp. and James is farming.
Living with them in the house is Charles Yancey 19, Bettie B. Yancey 18, Ella Yancey 16, Ada Yancey 14, Anna Yancey 9 and married daughter Virginia Wammack 26. She is listed as disabled.

On the Census for 1900, James now 75 and Caroline now 68 have moved off the farm and in to town and are living at 707 East Budlong St in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri. He is retired and they report that they have been married 51 years and 6 of their 12 children are still alive. Their son Charles now 39 is employed as a machinist and his wife Mary age 21 is living with them. They also have a servant Eva Peterson age 17 living with them.

By 1910, James has died and we find Caroline now living with her daughter Blanch James, aged 48 at 526 East Chestnut St. in Carthage. Blanch is employed as a dressmaker. Caroline's grandson Horace C James 28, is employed as a quarryman at one of the local stone quarries. 2 other grandchildren, Dot 19 and Luther 11 months old also are in the household. She also lives next door to another daughter, Anna Gerkey.

By April 23, 1912 Caroline passes away at the age of 81 and is buried in Park Cemetery next to her husband James under the direction of Knell Undertaking Company
