Charles Pierce Hale was the son of T. Judson Hale 1823-1896 and Sarah Payne Pierce 1826-1922, who had emigrated to Illinois from Pennsylvania in 1848.
Charles graduated from Lombard University in Galesburg and Martin's Business College in Monmouth IL.
On Oct 23, 1883, he married Helen E. Bonfoy in Carrollton IL. The family moved to Pittsburg KS in 1886, where Charles was the Cashier of the First National Bank.
The Hale's had three children: Clayton Bonfoy, Barbara Alden and Willis Henry Hale. Barbara died at age 3. Charles divorced Helen in 1901.
Hale married Ethel May Rich on 14 June 1905 in Denver CO. Charles and Ethel moved to Crescent City and he operated an fruit farm.
Charles and Ethel had two children, Harry Rich and Mary M. Hale.
