Publisher, founder of D. Lothrop Company in Boston. He published the work of his wife Harriet Lothrop, who wrote under the pseudonym Margaret Sidney ("The Five Little Peppers"). In 1883, the couple purchased The Wayside in Concord - the former home of Bronson Alcott and Louisa May Alcott and later the home of Nathaniel Hawthorne and his family. After Daniel's death in 1892, his wife took a break from writing and ran the publishing company for a time.
