John Henderson Hundley was born Sep 2, 1866 in Limestone County, Alabama the son of Daniel Robinson Hundley and Mary Ann Hundley. He married Elizabeth Groom Moore Dec 26, 1888 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of William Boone Moore and Annie M. Thomson. In addition to sons John Robinson Hundley Sr (1889-1967) and Daniel Harrison Hundley (1901-1988), John Henderson Hundley (1866-1905) and Elizabeth Groom Moore Hundley had two children that died in infancy: Annie Moore (1892-1892) and William Boone (1894-1894). John Henderson Hundley attended the University of Kentucky and was standing near the top of his class when he became very ill and had to leave college. He never graduated. He joined Ballard & Ballard, flourmillers, as a young man and became a top salesman He later became a member of the E. B. White Grain Company and a member of the St. Louis Board of Trade. He bought and sold wheat on the margin and sometimes made a lot of money. He was selected as the Grand Marshal for St. Louis's 1901 Fourth of July Parade. His family spent most of its savings trying to cure his two-year long illness. He died May 28, 1905 in Louisville, KY at age 38 of TB. His obituary appeared in the May 29, 1905 St. Louis Post-Dispatch (p5) and read as follows: "John H. Hundley, formerly connected with the St. Louis commission houses, died Sunday at Louisville, Kentucky after a long illness. He was a member of the Merchants Exchange until a year ago, when he left St. Louis because of ill health. He was 38 years old. A wife and two children survive him."
