He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Rose Lucero; his "pops," Antonio Ortiz; and his precious son, Felipe Ortiz. Rudy is survived by his wife, Debbie Ortiz; daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores Ortiz and Tony Yanez, Joanna Ortiz and Harry Carrillo; son, David Ortiz; granddaughters, Soraya Yanez and Mariana Carrillo; his mother, Josie Ortiz; mother-in-law, Virginia Chavira; aunt, Virgnia Casper; siblings, Tony and Grace Ortiz, Becky and Randy Montano, Ramona Gibson, Pauline Ortiz, Rachel and Eddie Cruz, Eugene and Tammy Ortiz, Carol and Mike Gomez, and Gina Lopez.
As a lifelong resident of Barstow, he was known as "Uncle Rudy" to 22 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews, as well as many others.
Rudy was an outgoing husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, friend, nino, and especially uncle. He was a caring man who, when he could and even sometimes when he could not, would go out of his way to help family and strangers alike. In the past Rudy led a church youth group at Bethel Temple called "Straight Talk." There he taught Bible lessons in a way that connected with youth while helping them face life's struggles. Uncle Rudy's smile and laughter will be greatly missed.
