Joseph Verdon Crum died Sept. 8, 2008, at his home in Washougal. He was 87.
He was born June 29, 1921, in Mayville, Ore., to George and Gracie (Sanders) Crum. He moved to The Dalles, Ore., when he was about 10 years old, and later to Camas after he graduated in 1940. he married Charlotte Gunderson on March 18, 1944, while serving in the Coast Guard. After his discharge, they settled in Washougal and he worked at Crown Zellerbach as a high pressure fireman. he retired in 1983. he belonged to the 49er RV group and RV'd for more than 25 years. he liked to fish, hunt, and started playing golf at the age of 75. he was Jack-of-all-trades, and could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte at home; sons, Vance Crum of Ridgefield, Randy (Charlene) Crum of Washougal, Jay (Karen) Crum of Carson; daughter, Jolette (Jim) Schmid of Washougal; sister Maxie Lee Kust of Woodburn, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside servicex will be private at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of arrangements.
