Proprietor of Inn Expires in Hospital
Frederick J. Nagle, 65, of 1248 Center Street, Tharptown, owner of the Colonial Inn, died Saturday afternoon in Shamokin Hospital, where he was a patient for one month. Mr. Nagle was in ill health during the last two and one-half years. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Frederick Jacob Nagle was born April 14, 1889, in New Berlin, Union County, a son of the late James and Emma (Manbeck) Nagle. He attended New Berlin elementary schools and New Berlin University. Mr. Nagle was graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, with a degree in electrical engineering. He was later employed by the Westinghouse Corporation, Pittsburgh, as an electrical engineer. Mr. Nagle and the former Miss Margaret Ellen McClow were married in 1914. He was an associate in the former McClow Ice Cream Company, which operated in Shamokin for many years. In 1920, Mr. Nagle opened the Colonial Inn, near the Brewery Curve in Tharptown, where he manufactured ice cream and candy. He was a member of the Shamokin Lodge of Masons and Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include the widow and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Wood, Wil-kinsburg, and Mrs. Bessie Wissinger, Ligonier. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 :30 in Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut Streets. Dr. H. C. Fry, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Shamokin Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow evening, from 7:00 to 9:00, and Wednesday until time of services.
