George K. Walter was born in Frank, Russia. He was the son of Conrad Walter and Maria Dorothea Leonhardt. Conrad married Katharina Elisabeth Kauffmann 30 Jan 1897 in Frank; she died 5 Dec 1931 in Spokane, Washington. Fourteen children were born to this marriage: Maria Katharina "Mary", George, Jacob J., Elizabeth, Margaret, Lydia, Amelia "Mollie", Esther (1909-2000), Alva (1910-1993), Martha, Benjamin, Carl, Hannah, and David Walter (1917-1993).

Conrad remarried to the widow Anna Margareth Bernhardt Sitzmann 17 Apr 1938 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tacoma, Washington.

It should be noted that on his obituary his mother's name was given (in error) as Anna Margareth Bernhardt - his 2nd wife's maiden name.
