Johann Georg Melchior/Melcher was born in Brunnental, Russia. He was the son of Johann Conrad Melchior and Katharina Magdalena Schössler. Ten known children were born to this marriage: *Born in Brunnental - Maria, Katarina, George, and Henrich; born in America - Henry, Martha, Mary, Frieda, Lydia and Arthur "Art" Melcher.

George immigrated with his young family to America, departing from Libau on the SS Korea and arriving at the Port of New York 17 Aug 1907. They traveled to Odessa to their uncle, Jacob Melcher.
