Mary Wadsworth, dau. of Joseph Wadsworth and Joanna Hovey, bapt. at the Hartford 2nd Chh. Oct. 18, 1713. She m. Capt. James Nichols at the Hartford 1st Chh. Jan. 12, 1737/8 and died at Hartford July 27, 1783, Æ. 70. There are no recorded children of the marriage.

Mary K. Talcott misread the Sexton Records of the Ancient Cemetery at Hartford claiming Mary was buried June 28, 1783 [Conn. Magazine, vol. 4, p. 420]. This error is corrected by the following:

• Connecticut Courant and Weekly Intelligencer.
Tuesday, July 29, 1783; No: 966; Page: 3.
DIED, on Sunday morning [July 27] Mrs. Mary Nichols, wife of Capt. James Nichols, in the 70th year of her age.

Mary was the paternal great granddaughter of Lieut. Col. John Talcott and his first wife Helena Wakeman, the parents of Capt. James Nichols' father's first wife, Helena Talcott. Mary was also the maternal great granddaughter of Capt. Aaron Cooke and Sarah Westwood, latter at whose father William Westwood's house at Hartford the immigrant Capt. Cyprian Nichols, the paternal grandfather of Capt. James Nichols, testified in 1707 he had resided for thirteen years (1646-1659) before returning to Hartford from England by 1668.
