William G. Thomas, 84, pioneer resident of this section, familiarly known to a host of friends as "Uncle Bill" Thomas, died at an early hour Thursday at his home five miles east of Waycross on the Brunswick Highway. His death removes one of the oldest residents of Ware County and Brantley County, a member of a family that has been prominent in the affairs of this section for several generations.
He was born February 22, 1851, the son of Banner Thomas and Lovie Denmark Thomas. His father served for many years as a justice of the peace in Ware County and had part in several Indian skirmishes in this county.
